Te Wiki o te Reo Maori

Last week was Te Wiki o te Reo Maori. We used Book Creator to make books to help people that don't know Maori. I chose to do Maori colours. We also used audio in case they didn't know how to pronounce it. At the start I didn't really know what I was doing because we have never used Book Creator before. At the end I knew what I was doing.

Maara Kai

We had a Maara Kai competition which was like MasterChef and everyone in my class was doing it. Willie, Shone, Sam and Ezra were in my group. We made spaghetti bolognese and meatballs with a mint water drink. I chopped up flat leaf parsley and squished all the meatball mixture together. We used kawakawa leaves because they taste like pepper. The food was delicious. There were two judges who tasted our food. and like it then they tested the others and after at we won bye explaining our dish and the taste.

Speeches 2020

We have been doing persuasive writing for our speeches. We will say these in front of the class next week. It was easy to write because I didn't make many mistakes. It was tricky putting the Screencastify on my blog because I couldn't remember how to do it. Miss Mikayla, Catalina and Mrs Naden helped me with it.

I strongly believe being able
to control plants is the best
superpower because you can
grow food quickly, you can make
the vines come out of the ground
and you could make trees grow quickly.
If you can control plants you can
grow them quickly. This would solve
hunger and starvation. You could
also sell the fruits and earn some money.
If you could control plants you can
make the vines come out of the ground
you can slow down bad guys.
It would also be great to climb up the
plants and play.
If you could control plants then you
can make a big tree to climb up and
make a treehouse. It would be fun
to play in.
So hopefully I've convinced you that
being able to control plants is the best
super power. How would you feel if you
were playing in that tree?

Here is my pepeha in Fijian. I will say this at the start of my speech. I didn't record my face because I was too shy.

Sacraments of Initiation

We are learning about the Sacraments of Initiation. They are Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. We had to add a symbol and a ritual for each for them. The symbol I chose were a candle for God's light, a dove for the Holy Spirit and the bread and wine for Jesus' blood and body. It was easy to find the Sacraments of Initiation because they are written in our classroom on the board and on our Word Wall. I liked searching the pictures because there were lots to choose from. It was kind of fun making the slide all at the same time because people kept changing everyone's background.

Moa Report

For the past two weeks we have been researching an extinct animal from New Zealand. I chose the moa because it looked like a fun one to do.

My success criteria was to use some short sentences, some sentences with joining words (and, because) and to use some sentences with extra information. I think I did all of these.

What did you learn about the moa from reading my report?

Moa were from the Dinornithiformes family.

It had rough feathers which were brown and black. It looked like an ostrich because it had a small head, long neck, large body, strong legs and no wings and it could run fast. The females were bigger than the males. It was 3.6 meters tall and it lived in the wet brush grassland and forest. His diet was made up of small stones, pebbles and plant parts and twigs and shrubs. The maori people killed moa for its meat and made fish hook jewelry from its bones. They also cut down its habitat and ate all its eggs.
